Travel Series: Vancouver BC

You could say I am part Canadian. My mom is from Canada and we’ve spent a great deal of time in parts of Canada throughout my life growing up.

For the last couple of years, I’ve spent a lot of my weekends in Vancouver BC and I have grown to love the city. It’s definitely changed over the years and it will continue to grow.

What I love about Vancouver is how lush and green it is, I love that I can be in the city, but at the beach, but then drive 45 minutes to an hour and be in the snow, it’s just the best of both worlds.

When I go to Vancouver I do tend to spend a lot of time in the same locations like Gastown, Kitsilano and North Granville but those locations are only the tip of the iceberg of what Vancouver has to offer.

Here are a few of my favorite places to go when I go to Vancouver.

Coffee Shop to visit Buro Espresso Bar

Location: In Gastown area

356 Water Street
Vancouver BC
V6B1B6

It’s located at the Holland Block in Gastown on the corner of Cordova & Water Street. What I love about this spot is really not just one but many things.

  1. The location: the location is perfect it’s very close to the waterfront and convention center. Within walking distance to the Four Seasons Hotel, Fairmont Hotel & Pan Pacific Hotel which is a great place to sit and watch the float planes come in which is one of my favorite things to do there. It is also in a fantastic location because it is kind of really at the beginning of Gas Town. Just keep walking east and you will start to hit some fantastic shops.
  2. The coffee: Their coffee is fantastic the Spanish Latte is by far my favorite item to get and they have really delicious breakfast burritos and pastries.
  3. The Café: I’ll admit inside isn’t exactly my favorite because I feel like it could use just a little upgrade but it is comfy with huge windows which make for some exciting people watching.
  4. Aesthetic: I’ll admit I am a sucker for some thought that goes into a business and Buro has some cute aesthetic when it comes to their mugs and their to-go cups. I just love them.

Restaurant to check out The Flying Pig

Locations:

Yaletown (1168 Hamilton St.)
Gastown (102 Water St.)
Victoria Coming Soon!

This is one of my favorite places to stop into and grab a meal, small dishes or a cocktail and some dessert (don’t forget to try their giant piece of chocolate cake) There are three locations in Vancouver. The first one is in Gastown and the 2nd is in Yaletown. Both locations are amazing and Yaletown is full of fantastic bars and restaurants and just a quick walk to the water and the 3rd location is in the Olympic Village and their newest location coming soon to Victoria.

The location in Gastown is my favorite, the bartenders are great and seemed open to the idea of creating some delicious cocktails for my friend that weren’t on the menu. If you are a pasta and seafood lover you must try the Wild Seafood Pappardelle pasta for about $22. It is the most amazing dish I’ve had and I literally dream about that dish. A great sharing option would be their West Coast Salmon Sampler for about $10 per person with a minimum of 2 people. It’s delicious.

Au Comptoir

Au Comptoir is another restaurant that I adore. It’s a French restaurant located in the Kitsilano neighborhood of Vancouver and this little restaurant truly reminds me of my time in Paris. The food is fantastic the ambiance is perfect I can’t express my love for this place anymore. you just need to give it a go.

Places to get outside

The thing I love most about Vancouver is the ability to be in the city but mere steps away from the water and minutes or a few hours to the silence of nature. There is an abundance of parks to visit and of course the most famous is Stanley Park.

Stanley Park is more than just a park nestled into the city it’s got the most incredible views, hidden trails, a magnificent aquarium and you can rent bikes or bring your own and cycle or walk the near 6 miles of trail along the seawall on the English Bay. There is also a lookout point along the drive which has incredible views of the Lions Gate bridge, delicious foods and drinks too.

The Kitsilano Beach Park (1499 Arbutus St.) is also one if my favorite places to hang out and walk around. It has a beautiful beach access with loads of volleyball courts, a community center and restaurant and outdoor pool and if you walk further you can walk down to a dog park beach access and if you keep on walking you will end up at Granville Island.

I absolutely love this city. Every time I go I find something new that becomes my favorite new place. Heading to Vancouver and want some suggestions? Just leave a comment below!

Happy travels!
