Favorite Plus Size Swimsuits & Cover-Ups

IT’S JUNE!!! Summer is quickly approaching and you know that means, Long summer nights, cocktails on sun drenched patios, road trips, and of course the beach or pool. However, that also means Swimsuit season.

Hey June

If your anything like me, swimsuit shopping is the worst possible shopping adventure ever. It’s up there with bra shopping and jean shopping. I hate it. It’s especially challenging for me because not only am I a plus size woman, I am 5’11 so no matter the size I am put at a disadvantage because normal sized clothes are usually to short for me, I have E.T. Arms, and stilts for legs, so what would be “regular” is actually capri pants on me. So shopping for swimsuits at a tall plus size figure posed an adventure I was not exactly looking forward to.

I have to admit, I am not used to being in the body I am in currently. I have always had a tall but curvy figure, but now I am just not where I’d like to be, I wish I had the confidence a lot of these curvy plus sized bloggers have I just don’t…..yet.

It’s all about whats in your mind, and once your mind realizes your worth more than your giving yourself credit for then the confidence will start shining through. And that is what I am working on. {Just thought I would add that little bit in there.} So, I have had this swimsuit for a few years and I have to say that was a stellar purchase. I actually got it when I lived in L.A. back in 2007 and went to visit my family who was staying in Anaheim. I have a swimsuit since I had gotten rid of my old one and never purchased a new one, so I hopped into the Gift shop at the Anaheim Hilton and bought this swimsuit that was whatever but I really liked how I looked in it and the color. It was this gorgeous dark green, deep V tankini. The top was a bit big for me so I always had to tie it up to the twins were supported. I have loved this swimsuit because it truly flattered my body no matter if I lost weight or gained weight I looked incredibly slim and I felt very confident in that swimsuit. However lately I had been wanting to swim laps more at the community pool and as I was doing this I noticed this swimsuit was NOT made for lap swimming because with each stroke one of my boobs would fall out. unfortunately this isn’t the only suit that has let me down in the boob department but that’s another story 🙂

So I decided to go on the prowl for a one piece that I felt attractive in and that was going to keep me supported through my swims because this was my first time shopping for a plus sized swimsuit.

ASOS is my favorite online retailer for Plus sized clothes. The majority of their items are not only adorable, stylish and I feel truly sexy in them they fit me height wise. I have never had to buy something that was to short, in fact most items I return, (If I even do) is because they are to big, which is quite alright with me :). So ASOS was my first stop on the swimsuit shopping extravaganza. I knew I wanted a one piece only because I knew I would feel the most supported when swimming but also because I would feel the most comfortable. However, I hate one pieces. I always feel hot and like a sausage and just un-sexy. So I found this one from ASOS. It was black which is what I wanted, and I wanted something on the detail that felt someone young and fresh, So when I got it I was actually beyond impressed.

The ruching at the stomach actually slim the stomach down, and when I saw the low-cut on the thighs I thought it was going to cut me off but actually it is very slimming. There is this sheer fabric on the straps that I love, I put this on with reluctance when I bought it but when I looked at myself in a full length mirror I was shocked at how slim I looked and actually how sexy and attractive I felt. Also, my theory of a one piece had been shot through the roof because this swimsuit breathes, and I didn’t feel like a sausage in it at all.

So, now that it is June and summer is almost officially here, I have noticed a ton of photos via Instagram of gorgeous plus sized models and bloggers in their summer best and decided I needed to do some more swimsuit investigating and find some of my favorites for summer.

There are a couple here that I tried on before but they were to short on me but I loved them but most are ones that I am DYING to get my hands on. I have to say, Plus sized clothing has come a long way. I think retailers are realizing plus size women are just that, women and we want to feel just as beautiful and sexy as the rest of the world.

ASOS Curve Bikini Striped. I couldn't find a price for the top because I think it is sold out but the bottoms were on sale for around $18 I believe. But I put this as one of my favorites because I adore the stripes and the color and I LOVE the bottoms, the high waist and the ruching on the side. You could buy these bottoms and get a solid black top.

Now, where there is a swimsuit there comes a cover up. I have never been comfortable just walking around in my swimsuit alone so I always need some type of cover up, whether is shorts and a tank or a cute sundress. Here are a few of my favorite plus sized cover ups.
