Memorial Day Weekend {3 looks, 3 events}

So, I have to be honest, I started planning my long weekends for the wrong weekend. And, I was totally excited because everything was so cheap, I was so hyped that when I realized memorial day weekend was actually THIS weekend you could hear my bubble popping from miles away. I realized that all my plans just went up by 300 bucks and sold out everywhere but it got me thinking of my previous plans and then the potential plans I may have come Friday.

So, I initially was planning a trip to San Francisco because I found a round trip ticket for about $180 and an affordable hotel room at a hotel near China town I had stayed before. I was all set, I had planned my weekend, yummy dinner at Mission Chinese or pizza at Zero Zero in SoMa, maybe grabbing a tiki cocktail at the Tonga Room at the Fairmont Hotel. And then renting a car and zipping on down to Sonoma and have lunch and wine tasting. However, those plans are going to have to wait.

This weekend though there is always something going on in Seattle, like the folk life festival at the Seattle Center. Every year the drum circles come out to soak up the sun, the food booths are in full effect and the impulsive desire to buy something made of feathers completely takes over and I leave stuffed, slightly buzzed from the beer gardens, with a henna tattoo a new something I will never use and a shitty sunburn that will make me hate the world for 3 days. But there is nothing better.

So I decided to create three looks that I would wear for three different Memorial day events.

FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL-SEATTLE

Every Memorial Day Weekend Seattle holds the Folklife festival at the Seattle Center, which is basically at the base of the Space needle. It’s been going on for about 42 years and basically it is live music, arts and crafts and basically a place for art, friends, and good times.

Usually the weather is incredibly beautiful and hot out so your outside walking around in crowds. As years have passed each time I go I find a new way to keep cool in my outfits. First and foremost I need to be comfortable. I have also found that I need to make sure I am bringing sunscreen with me because I burn easily, and a regular purse just doesn’t cut it. A cross body bag or even a backpack works. This look I created is probably one of my more summery favorite looks so far.

Memorial Weekend-Festival

When it gets to be warm out and then add lots of people and thick crowds being dressed cool is kind of a necessity. I love this Madewell dress. It’s a very cute pattern and very light for walking around all day. I learned quickly that flip-flops or open toed sandals are never a good choice in crowds so I usually opt for flats or usually sneakers, like these vans. I LOVE vans, I have actually had some type of van’s sneaker since I was very young. They are incredibly comfortable and look great with pretty much anything. {Side note: I have my eye on a pair of van leopard print sneakers}. When I am out I don’t tend to like a lot of jewelry so I just opted for a cute fun little watch, this one is really cute with the kitty ears. I chose this River Island Backpack, I love the quilted fabric and thought it just looked cute and fresh with this look. If your like me, and are very fair skinned you fry like bacon minutes into the sun. So I ALWAYS have sunscreen on if I know I am going to be outside for a long period of time, I actually really love this brand of sunscreen, SUN BUM which you can get at Nordstrom, I just love the smell and it doesn’t make my skin sticky like some of the ones I’ve gotten at the drug stores. Since it is summer I like to add a bright nail color and I LOVE this MAC nail color, unfortunately I think they don’t make it anymore and I can’t remember the name but Julep has similar colors, I just really like a yellow nail it’s very fresh and great for summer. I am, as you may know, an avid photo taker. I love this Fuji Instax camera, I adore instant photos and I also have the larger one but it is so awkward to carry around and this one is much smaller and fits good in a backpack. Don’t forget the sunnies and since this weekend is supposed to rain in Seattle don’t forget the hoodie.

SAN FRANCISCO WINE DINNER-MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

San Francisco is my new favorite city. It is such a beautiful city, there is so much to see and do and the history of the city is incredible and you see it everywhere you turn. I love the steep hills, the Victorian homes and apartments. There is really something special about San Francisco. When I was there over last summer we stopped in Healdsburg,CA which is the cutest city ever with the nicest farmer’s market and the best vegan food I have ever had. We also stopped in Sonoma at a couple wineries and since then I haven’t stopped thinking how fun it would be to spend a couple of days in SF then have a beautiful winery dinner out in gorgeous Sonoma.

So, this look is pretty simple but there is something really sexy and feminine that I really love and find it perfect for an event like this.

Wine Country-Memorial Day weekend

There is something I truly love about the midi skirt trend. It is a very relaxed, 50’s, romantic feel to it. I feel like you can dress it up or dress it down. when creating this look I am pretending the weather is a bit on the warmer side, I paired this Topshop midi skirt with a fitted white tank top. The tank top looks the best tucked in and gives it this beautiful streamlined, effortless and sexy look. I added these strappy snakeskin heels, but what I love about these is the strap isn’t just a standard ankle strap but a tied strap. So you can tie it higher up or like you see above. I love this. It just adds a whole new element to the look. I kept the accessories super simple and actually I went back and forth on whether or not I should add a necklace or not. I actually think I would opt to go without, but this simple bar necklace is a nice touch. I kept the wrings a little fun and I would either wear them on one hand or one on each hand. I LOVE these Celine sunnies, I think they complement this look and add a really chic touch. While I think a clutch would look great with this look I opted for a neutral shoulder bag to keep my hands free for wine holding and food eating. As for skin this is the perfect time to flaunt a sexy golden glow. I would first, before ever getting dressed is exfoliate my skin, add the Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Liquid Bronzer which gives my skin this really beautiful bronze color. I never look like an oompa loompa and it always looks natural. For a scent I add this Bobbi Brown BEACH body oil, it smells like heaven and it’s not over powering.

ROAD TRIP/BEACH TRIP-MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
Lately I have been kind totally ready to just hop in my car and just drive. When you drive you get to experience such amazing things in this world. Maybe you find a delicious restaurant in the middle of nowhere, or decide to take a random hike and find a glorious waterfall, a road trip is completely limitless. Which is why my last look is for that perfect weekend getaway with your other half or a few good friends.

Road Trip & Beach-Memorial Day Weekend
Again, I am clearly pretending the weather is going to be brilliantly sunny and warm, and in some places it will be. So, when I take a road trip I really like to be comfortable and to be a pair of cut off denim shorts and a loose muscle tee and some chucks are the epitome of comfort. I think a good pair of denim cut off shorts are the best thing in the world and actually I still have a pair that I wore the majority of summer when I was between 15-18. I like them not the be super tight but have a nice fitted but loose fit. I wear sneakers when I am on a road trip only because I don’t know where I am going to be getting out, I may need to hike down some rocky trail and a sneaker is, I think, the best thing for that. I also like a nice big tote where I can stash some flip-flops, a hat, sunscreen and some flip-flops in case we decide to stop and hang out on the beach and swim a little. A road trip is all about the unknown, the best trips are when there is no plan at all.
So, what are your plans this lovely long weekend?
